Kyoto entertainment

Bar Africa.
This is a favorite haunt of football fans since matches are aired on the big screen all day long. Plus, the Asahi beers are cheap. It's just across the Hub in Infra.

Bar Eclipse
This rather upscale basement bar is a favorite haunt for tourists who enjoy all-night drinking. It's located behind Crescent Restaurant. The bar is well-stocked with a wide selection of spirits.

Fushimi District
If you have a taste for sake, the Fushimi District has a row of excellent sake breweries where you can drink to your heart's content. Hop on a bus from Gekkeiken and you're on your way.

British and Irish pubs.
There are six excellent British and Irish pubs in Kyoto and you can't go wrong with any of them. The Hub is on the corner of Kiyamachi and Kawaramachi and is like the unofficial headquarters for English-speaking tourists.

The recently renovated Pig & Whistle above the Sanjo Keihan subway station has big crowds and live music. The Gael Irish Pub: (formerly "Tadg's Irish Pub") is in Kawabata-dori, which is easy to reach if you're downtown and has open mic nights for budding singers. The Hill of Tara is quiet, mellow and a bit more expensive. McLoughlin's on Kiyamachi has the most famous chef in town, Tadg McLoughlin, who's also the owner. Kick-Up Pub, facing the Westin Miyako Hotel, is a favNightclubs.

Kiyamachi is a place lined with nightclubs and hostess bars, including the popular Pretty Space and Rub-A-Dub. The fun can get pretty delirious so it's best to have a buddy in tow. It's located between Shijo and Sanjo. Once you see dozens of tuxedo-clad lads beckoning you to come hither, you know you've found the place.
